Could be coil or even a bad plug wire that will cross a gap under throttle

nah fuel pumps will just stop completely

sounds like its a timing or spark issue

check to see iff plugs and wires are good

make sure firing order is right

see if tooth jumped on timing belt

Not completely true...my fuel pump gave me problems for 3 or 4 days before it fully packed it in. The last day it died while I was driving but I could still start it back up and if I feathered the pedal it would run but as soon as I let off the gas to put it in gear it would die. Eventually it would not start at all but i could start it a few times while I was trying to trouble shoot the issue. Once it finally died I could tell because I could not hear the pump turn on when the key was turned to the ACC position.

fuel filter?

there is also test port on the fuel filter banjo bolt. check to see if your building the correct pressure from the pump.

first off do a compression test on it and eliminate that part.

If it is the fuel pump it can also be an intermittant problem. also check the connection for the fuel pump under the driver rear tail light as that connections corrodes .

is it missing? does it sound like a dead cylinder
