Question Yanks Peak

The last that I heard was that yanks Peak was closed to 4X4 traffic.

Is this still the case ?

It has been open with only 1 route over the top and you have to stay on the road. This makes for a relatively boring 'wheeling' ride but there are awesome views and it is cool to do at least once just for the 'been there, done that' factor. There is no wicked wheeling/crawling/bogging up there - it is a road trip. I went up last year and it is a challenging climb from the WL side - lots of willows scratching the rig and a few washouts and switchbacks but a friend in his 4wd Astrovan (modded with tcase/lift and 31 AT's) made it up easy. One of these days mother nature is going to wash out that road for good and it will never be fixed. I went part of the way down to Wells on the other side and that road is in considerably better shape than from the WL side.
I'm pretty sure the PG offroad group is heading up there sometime in July.

The road is fine to go up there. We actually met up with fuzzydog and there crew last year. you can go up there but DO NOT go off the trail. They are cracking down really hard. Heard a couple fines were passed out last too.

We usally head up there yearly but not until august because the snow is finally gone by then.

Are you going up Yanks or round top? Round top is closer but a tiny bit tougher.

Love to setup another run this year too. if interest was there.

Is this a modified rig at all? You don't need much to tour around there. But would suggest a 31 if anything.

I don't mean to rain on your parade and everyone knows their own abilities but the road up from the WL side is definitely not trailer friendly. Maybe a very small trailer with good ground clearance and pintle hitch, there is no way a ball hitched trailer will make it without damage. Also, there are some narrow switchbacks with a pretty steep drop off.
What I have done in the past (when we met up with Lego and the PG group) was to tow my tent trailer to Cariboo Lake and set up camp at Ladies Creek rec site. Then we went up Yanks and Roundtop for the day.

BTW, the road to Roundtop is NOT a designated road and you take a chance of getting busted by going up there. Apparently lots of people are going there but that doesn't make it legal and one of these days they just might pick someone to make an example of.

Warlord, are you in the Cariboo area? Always looking for locals to do weekend trips with

Live in Port Coquitlam, but have never managed to get up there yet, so this year is the year. I'll either be riding in the jeep w/ 35's locked and the trailer is on 35's w/ a flipped axle, or the Grand Cherokee on 33's.
How is Atan Lk or Chisle Lk. for a base camp, or would you recommend someplace different

Never heard of Atan or Chisel lakes... Cariboo Lake is right at the base of the Yanks Peak road and there is a nice rec site, but it is on the other side of the lake from Yanks. Not a big deal, just a small drive on good forestry road.

Here are some pics from our Yanks trips last year. The first pics are from a trip we did in July - camped out at Cariboo lake, and did a day trip up to Yanks.

Switchback with a little cabin. should be negotiable by jeep and small trailer.

Road leading up from the last switchback. Goes to another switchback that I wouldn't want to do with a trailer, but that's just me.

that is for shure a worth while trip, some of the best views, stayed at cariboo lk. 4 days after fuzzydog and the others left, and theres no end to the quad trails and lookouts. but ya, get a map and make shure you stay away from the closed areas, we got stoped by the CO. and they took our DL# and all our names.
