new to the quad family

Well this is the first quad Ive traded my 90 sidekick for a 01 yamaha big bear 400 4X4 2000 lb winch and the large back seat with the arm rests The best part of it is the bike has 230 kms on it Pretty much brand new So I am also wondering what it might be worth

An '01 Big Bear is probably worth about $4000-$5000 max. My '02 400 Kodiak would be lucky to get $5500max privately. Trade in value way less. Your 'Kick must have been in nice shape I'm assuming. Or the guy really needed a car over a quad!

No but it is more than just a rumor.I am selling my quads because of it.as much as $1000 dollars a year per machine and I dont feel like paying any more money. It will be here soon enough but not right away.Every machine will need to be registared and If you drive it on anything other than your own land you will need insurance too.As it is if you want to be legal you need third party liabilty to use any FSR's I have been warned before but never fined.

Like you said, we already are supposed to have third party on any road we ride on. The registration is just another money grab, but welcome to reality. I believe Ontario has had mandartory regi for years. The only positive side to this is now the government knows how many quads there really are out there. As it is, we are a very small minority and are letting all the non-motorized rec groups walk all over us by shutting down trails/riding areas. If we have a bigger voice, then we should be able to start adopting trails and keeping others open.

BTW, talked a guy on the weekend out quadding. He is paying $350 for 7 months of $1 million liability for his 750 Kawi 4x4. Some private insurer, not ICBC, they will screw you royally! I am going to bite the bullet this year and start insuring for third party. They hired extra CO's this year to patrol the bush, so chances of getting caught are going up!

So if you are not on an FSR and get caught the can still fine you? even though the registration is not manditory yet?

I never heard of that. I was pulled over with my kodiak on the day of the pig roast and they didnt even know where to look for serial numbers.

It was raining out and I told him I didnt know either and wasnt getting out to look. He just sent me on my way.

Do you get some kind of regi when you buy a brand new one? Ive had several and no regi and my last one was from an old guy 6 months old and he never gave me one.
