Epic road trip adventures

So what are your epik road trip memories
Be they good bad funny etc

One of my most memorable trips was about twenty years ago
Buddy buys a 49 Mercury in California and ask me to go with him and drive it back
So we fly down to get this car turns out he's neglecting to tell me the car has been sitting in a barn for the last twenty years and hasn't been ran in that time
So we embark on awakening the beast from its sleep
I'm amazed Their is no signs of rodents in the Merc and the car is like a time capsule
So we make sure it turns over rebuild carb Fuel pump dump fresh fuel in tank
and it just starts leaking like a fountain under the car .crap!!
The fuel tank is fucked
Off we go to town. Only thing we can find is boat tanks
So we buy two boat tanks couplers and primer bulb for quick changeovers while still rolling
Well it runs and moves now but no brakes dump brake fluid in and brakes seem to work woo hoo
We hit the road wow thirty year old bald bias ply tires have flat spots that won't go away hey a tire store lets get some tires that are not going to kill us
So drop car at tire shop and go Down street to have lunch
Go back to tire store and everyone is standing outside shop
And there's the Merc still no tires on it trunks open spare tire is laying behind car
Remember the no rodent signs ?
Rodents and snakes don't get along and there a rattle snake nest in the trunk
Finally the pest control guy shows up collects the snakes up and there goes 200 bucks
Tires finally get done we order Pizza and get beers for the tire guys
And off we go
So about 40 miles later it's over heating now great !!!!
Stop pull the thermostat out add water and off we go
Dammit it's still steaming
Ok we need water jugs now and stopping every 30 to 50 miles to fill rad is getting old so some fuel line and the boat tank primer bulb we now can fill rad without stopping
Get about two hours out of a boat tank and about the same for jug of water

Thousand miles at 50 mph to go things are running smooth now

So we have decided to drive at night it's cooler and the Merc rolling down I5
With steam billowing out like a steam train isn't as obvious
So we thought going through Salem we get pulled over
Yea a California black plate 49 Merc steeaming along slower than everyone else isn't obvious at all trooper turns out to be cool and just thought we didn't know it was leaving a trail of smoke behind us
And let's us continue
We make it to friends place in Seattle and leave car at his place to get car cleared and go get it with a trailer car had plates but no insurance on it

What a awesome trip it was
So what are your road trip story's

No roadkill got the idea because they are real car guys
And doing shit like that is normal
Shipping a car doesn't build a bond with you vehicle
Like a make it or brake it road trip
Buddy still has the Merc twenty three years later
It's not the same car now updated running gear lead sled air ride
It still has a rattle snake rattle hanging from the rear view mlrror

So, I was heading from Redding california over to Yreka. I had my pathfinder in tow. My buddy who I was on vacation with got an emergency call back to work, so we cut our wheeling trip short. I had an extra day to burn, so i said hell, lets drive up the coast.
As I was heading west on Highway 36 (IIRC) and saw a sign that said, King pin trailers prohibited, trailers not advised.. I thought to myself, meh, I know how to drive so I kept going. road got windy. steep, up down, I thought to myself, well this isn't very fun. Then the tranny in my diesel got hot. I stopped, let the engine run and everything cooled off. Off I went again. tranny got warm again. this happened a few times. But I wasn't in a hurry so i would just pull over. There was some really interesting landscape. Trees growing sideways, I saw some guy walking down the road as if he was out for a stroll but we were in the middle of NOWHERE.
After several hours, we get to the top of the mountain and start going down the other side. We were now into the redwoods and it was quite pretty. As i was comming down some swithbacks, I noticed my truck wasn't slowing down as it should. I hammered on the breaks, and i was barely slowing. I look down and my trailer brake controller and it said "not connected"... Oh shit. so i try and downshit the automatic, helped a little, hammering on the brakes, I finally got stopped. I jumped out and all 4 of my brakes are smoking. I told Steph to holler at me when the controller Changed to "C". I wiggled the plug and it reconnected. Jumped into the truck and started moving to cool of the truck brakes.. Fortunately I was done with the steep part and the rd flattened out a bit. This damn road turned into 1 lane. it was so narrow that my trailer tires were on teh lines on both sides.. and there were redwoods 2" from the lines, fuck me... I keep going and see a sign that says, "road narrows". I said to steph, how the fuck can it get any narrower? Fortunately, it turned back into 2 lanes, but the lanes were even more narrow, I was driving halfway in the other lane. We made it down to the coast without further incedent, but wow man....

Next time I see a sign that says trailers not advised, I think i'll head the warning.
And I will never tow anything over that mountain again.
