time to prep for jeepin this summer-infant questions

So, After sitting out most of last year with a super pregnant wife, its time to get my poop in a group. We want to get out and do some exploring and wheeling with our little girls, they are just 4-1/2 months old now, so it wont be anything crazy but i'm wondering what other parents are doing in the way of car seats? I have people tell us we are stupid for even thinking of taking them out to, people who say life goes on do as you normally would. Done a lot of research , some say use highback seats with plenty neck and lumbar support and even neck donuts so they arent just bobbling around. what you all figure?
