transfer case question

Ok so the kid who bought the wrong axle and then found out he had a dana 60 now has blown his transfer case. He has a 208 in it.... my question is this (and thanks for all the help lately) if he puts a 205 in, will it bolt up to the tranny no prob? and will he have to change driveshafts?

the truck is a 1985 chev 3/4ton.....

jesus that kid is hard on his shit eh hahaha a 205 will only work with another 27 spline or 32 spline transmission so if he has a th350 it should bolt on with the right parts if its a sm465 or th400 it would need to be a 32 spline np205 i would just search castanet should be able to find another 208 for 100$

wow thx again for the help it is a standard so it must be the sm465 ... so would this 208 work? looks like a different mounting plate than what he has so I am assuming it's for the t350?

ok possibly swapping adapters could work onto that 208 but make sure to measure how long the input shaft is on his old 208 and compare it to that 208and also check the spline count on the input shafts and make sure his isnt a 27 spline and that your students isnt a 32 spline if its the same then i would just put his 465 adapter onto the case and throw it in and before you throw it in i would make sure you seal up that case good they have issues with leaking lots of atf and if you can prevent that then all the better for the future but if I were him i would be looking to swap a 465/205 combo into and just be done with it prob fine that whole combo for 250$ or so on this forum if you post it up in the wanted.

ok ya so we have the tcase off and left the adapter on the truck. It's a 32 count spline as you said bc it's the sm465. so now to measure the input shafts on the 2 cases. awesome!

yup measure and count the splines on the input of the one you found and make sure its the same length and spline count and it should just bolt up

U can put a 205 behind it but u need the adapter from a later model 1 ton truck and the round pattern 205. This adapter is not the same as the one u have on it currently its slightly longer and has a relief for the 205 linkage. To bad I didn't have my setup installed already I have a 208 that I won't need any more

ok so no luck on the 208 on castanet bc it's a 27spline input and we need a 32. rideharder thanks for the options, but it's the circle bolt pattern not the racetrack and I think he would rather spend the $ on a 205 than have 203. as for the 241, what is did it come out of/bolt up to?

85chevy thanks for the info I will keep that in mind when we are looking for a 205
