ford expedition tranny problem, shifter

over the las year i have noticed alot more play in the shifter on the colum, it has alot of play, and the gears dont match up with the indicator on dash(machanical) i need to find nutral to know where i am, and its hard to get into park, is it the rang selector? seems like it should be something simple, please help i dont want to go to the dealer , 97 xlt 4x4 with od thx

should be adjustable some where. my 78 ford has gotten so bad i cant get into park anymore . all i know is reverse is all the way up, just go by feel from there

, a friend said there is a couple of bolts under the colum that might be loose, we did do the heater core, had to drop the colum, i wonder, we were drinking beer

dont blame the beer, blame the bolts.
itd be worth checking before spending any money.

On my superduty theres 2 torq head screws up under the dash that come loose and screw up te shifter.
Ive had to tighten them twice.

Lay on your back and look up under dash .They are gold good sized torque bolts , you will know them when you see them.
Only ones like it up there on superdutys so yours might be the same.

A lot of them the part the column shifter runs in breaks apart
Ford used the same part in a lot o cars and trucks
Have used Taurus shifter in f350 tow truck bolts right in

yup we build them all the time here at work very easy too do.. drop colom down and youl see ther\ prob.... but get the parts from ford the aftermarket ones dont fit right.

so i picked the truck up today, climbed in and moved it around and sure as the sky is blue the two bolts were lose. hand tightened them as much as possible and it tightened up a bit, will clank them down tomorrow, fingers crossed

ok bad news, i went to tighten them down and the piece that the screw goes into has broken and have no idea, so can i fix this or am i screwed???? need help with this one for sure......
