Rough Idle??

Buddys 87 chev 305 we replaced the IAC motor and it idles low like normal except now the engine idle surges up and down slightly. Sounds likes its going to stall then it picks up again. Engine sat for a couple yrs yet it revs out really nice. I know nothing about these efi units. I was thinking a bad spark plug. Any ideas appreciated.
