U built trailer plates

Buddy of mine just called me from icbc brokers, apparently as of July 1st there will be no more U build trailer plate option offered by icbc
All trailers will need a regi number and or need a one tome inspection.

If this is true I suggest you head down and grab a couple or three plates in case they are needed in future...

Just a heads up

no to easy to register a stolen trailer
you will still be able to build a trailer
but you will have to show bills for everything u used to build it
and have a inspection done once
all they are doing is same as u built motorcycle or hotrod

If they are no longer makeing ubuilt trailer plates why would you want to get extras won't they just become useless? I'm sure when you go in to renew incurance on ur ubuilt trailer they will tell you that you need to go for an inspection and get a large non exp. plate

Am I wrong ? Just dosent make sence

Whos going to have a reciept for a trailer axle they pulled out of the junk somewhere?

Or pickup box trailers , I have 2 of them. Dont have a clue where they came from , I got them on a junk swap somewhere.

There must still be a way to register them.

Even if you have to get them inspected thats not a big deal , whats to inspect other than tires and lights and saftey chains , which should all be OK anyway.

last summer when I went to get insurance for a home built trailer they wanted reciepts to verify that I payed tax on it. Thats all this is for on the smaller single axle trailers. I told them I didnt keep any and not much of it was new parts to begin with so we just assessed a build value of $600 and I payed the HST on that.

ICBC told me here they are not inspecting utility trailers, they just want proof that the parts were purchased and taxes paid. I told them I had just been swapping plates on 3 trailers I already had and they gave me registration for the other two, 18 bucks each, no insurance. Thanks for the heads up Danny.
