97 TJ small crack in header

ballllsssssss....Just discovered a small crack in the header. ? Is how long can you drive with a crack? Can it be fixed , welded and has anyone ever replaced one and can give some hints

My YJ header was/is cracked for 3 yrs on road, and a year off the road. Weld that shit up.

You'll be fine, Do you have two manifolds that tie into one or just a single?
The duals are cast the single you can pull out and weld but will probably crack again, talk to B and get a new one then you're worry free for awhile.

soak the nuts in penetrating oil the night before you try to remove them. and if they start coming out then get tight again spin them in a few turns then out again.

I just did one for a customer in a 99 cherokee his had been cracked for quite some time and he tried welding it up. It just kept getting worst.

That's weird jay. Mines like header tin, but i know it's not a header and it's a dual into one....

got er welded for a quik fix for now as it was on the top and accessible. Wil, get a new/used header soon

the tubular ones are some kind of stainless alloy
once there cracked and you weld it it will just crack beside the weld
the one i made on my turbo ranger was more weld than tube after three years

It'll crack again yeah, but for 5 minutes including pulling the welder out of the garage, I'd say it's worth the effort. Chris popped it a couple times with the header in the Jeep at my place real quick. It'll hold for long enough.
