Recently scored a 429 from a buddy for free, came out of early 70s torino, 72 iirc, and with around 60,000km on it to. The plan is to swap it in the bronco.
I will be converting it to efi, just wanted to get some opinions on what to do with the heads, etc, I also plan on putting a BB zf-5 behind it.

dont know how well the zf will hold up to a70s 429
they make a fair bit more power than the smoger 460s the zf was bolted to
i broke three in my 72 f350
2 input shafts and split the side of the case on one
towing a 20000 lb trailer probably didnt help

please run aftermarket injection. if ya youse the 460 stuff you will be hidering the performance of a good potennt motor. ever think about propane? seen some monster 429s runnin lpg.

i have one take a die grinder to the heads and open up the oil drain holes and spend some time on the exhaust ports and that motor loves rpm even though i didnt build mine for high rpm it still loves it

Flywheel will be a problem and you will have to get a custom pilot bushing made. There are after market flywheels.

umm kinda but it is super simple get the proper flywheel for the zf and get the weight machined off the back and then get it zero balanced and upgrade to the 12.25" clutch

yuuup bolting it to a zf isnt a prob
rebalance flywheel the 12.5 clutch is a good thing

my 460 would rip 11 in cluthes apart regularly
like every sunday we went to strawberry

This is the efi/tbi kit I am thinking of going with http://www.holley.com/550-401.asp , havent heard any bad reviews yet. This is gonna be my first actual engine build, and i'm not to familure with the BB's, always done more with the SB 302's. Still not sure aswell if i'm gonna keep the heads and port/polish them or swap them out. Any recomendations on fly-wheel brands and clutches?

thats cool and you can also use a off the self piloet bearing .. the end of the cranks never changed my old 429 crank takes the same crap as my later model 460.. i have a luk flywheel and will have a centerforce clutch. if you are wanting lots of power the throttle body wont handle it but will be good for that 429 as it sits .
