BW1356 vs NP205

sooo my 1990F250 with a ZF, after almost 400,000ks my transfercase is starting to make some nasty noises in 4H. should I just put another 1356 in or say to hell with it and look for a 205? anyone ever done this swap? is it worth it? enlighten me, thanks all!

the trucks basicly going to be a toy hauler/camping rig something to get into camping spots and haul my dirtbike around, just finished putting a 6" lift and a 60 in it

Stick with the 1356, the 205 is alot heavier, youll have to fab up some kind of support to hold the weight unless you want a busted tranny. The 1356 has a better low range aswell. And they are planty strong, I ratbag mine fairly often and its holding up just fine. And I belive ford used those t-cases all the way up to the 450's, you can usually find a good used one at Pick'n pull< if not your looking about $1000 fully rebuilt.

You also have to clearance the tranny to fit the 205. Stick with the 1356. it's also running 2.7 as opposed to 1.9 low.
