06 F150 FX4s, what is the consensus?

I might be able to trade my 02 4Runner for an 06 F150 FX4.

I don't know much about them. Are they fairly reliable, or are there major issues with those trucks?

It has about a 100k on it so if anything craps out I'll be paying for it.

nice truck fx4 is even more of a plus! what motor does it have in it ?4.2-liter V-6 engine, a 4.6-liter Triton V-8 and the top-of-the-line 5.4-liter, three-valve Triton V-8.? i think thats the options that come in 2006

5.4L leather sunroof, trailer package etc.

Just checked the fuel mileage. I would go from 15/18 mpg to 12/16 mpg.
Not to much of a change imo. It will be a daily driver though.

are you insane? unless you absolutely need to haul crap that your runner cant, or pull a 5th wheel, why would you want to do such a downgrade?

its a ford. my father in law had one similar to the one in the pic. extra cab long bed. he bought a used one about 3 years ago. not an FX4, but had the triton in it. he uses it as his only vehicle, and takes it out camping and fishing. then... something in the motor cracked. put it this way...he had to replace the truck earlier this year. he bought another ford...but then again he's a ford guy.

why get rid of a solid reliable vehicle thats worth something, and pay into something that will be worth pennies in a few years time? if you want something that gets that kind of shitty mileage (yes 12/16 is shitty), then get an FZJ80. if you really have a hard on for the ford, do yourself a favour and buy an extended warranty. you will need it.

I have an '97, '02, and '06 4Runner sport (V8) at the moment.

I used to daily drive the '97, came across the '02 with 34500kms on it in february. Don't like the 3.4l auto combo personally so I wouldn't mind getting rid of it. It's got 48500kms now.
Dealers don't give much on trade in I found so if I can trade for something out there then it would be good.
Not many people want to trade land cruisers for 4Runners I think. Still haven't sold the '97 at less then $5K either, so selling a vehicle does not seem easy at the moment.
Lack of time to deal with selling a vehicle is another reason for trading if a good one comes along.

economy sucks right now. no one wants to shell out more money then they have to and everyone is buying 4cyl yotas or small v6's ...if your runner is a 4cyl i dont see why it wouldnt be selling ..

Never mind the fuel economy which by the way is not great, the Ford is a great looking nice riding piece of crap.....stay away from it. My brother in law doesn't abuse his but it's always in the repair shop, he probably could have bought 2 of them for the amount of money he has put into repairs...... A friend of mine also has one which also has been in the repair shop way too many times. The dealership had to lift the cab to repair the engine when the infamous spark plugs broke off while changing them......

Thanks for the replies & heads up.

I was reading the link below and decided to pass on ford trucks. http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com...Plug_Nightmare

Can't stay away from Toyota, I have 3 4Runners here at the moment.
Don't care much to the newer Tundras, up to 06 I like them.

02-06 GMCs look good also, don't know if there are many issues with those though.

Hmm, that spark plug issue is pretty scary. My Lordco van is an 06 with the 5.4L. But I don't think it's a 3v engine because the plugs did not look like the ones for the 04+ 3V's, and when we had them changed it only took about 2 hrs and the shop said nothing about them breaking.
