Exclamation no first or reverse

buddies got a mid 90s halfton 5 speed 2wdr 4.3. outa nowhere he lost reverse, and first. any idears. dont know much aboot trannies, or chevs. help would be appreciated.

the shifter wont even go into first or reverse, just pushes paast into 3rd or fourth. synchros?? tranny went boom??

Usually if it loses 1st, reverse goes with it if it's a shift fork/rail issue - they're on the same shift hub. Time to pull it out and tear it down, looks like a simple tear down - case splits front/rear.

2nd gear, slip the clutch and use the e-brake to spin it into reverse

easy fix. it was the split pin that holds the shifter to the shifting "rod" inside at the top had come out, just pounded it back down for now, seems to have worked.
