hood interchange?

Will a hood off my 80 or 81 chev pickup fit on a 76 or are the hinges different? Do you need to change the hinges too?

'80 should fit but '81 won't unless you plan on changing the whole front clip. A buddy put a mid '80s clip on his pre-'80 and because the old hood went right to the windshield he had a gap there, not sure why he couldn't have put the cowl piece from the newer truck on his old one.

I have heard that 1980 hoods were different then pre '80s but not sure why, I've never seen anything different and Cross Canada shows the same hood for '73-'80.

Thanks. How much does I guy charge for a good hood up here in the Cariboo? Chilliwack pick-a-part charges about $55. I figure to someone I don't know $75 up here? I'm just trying to make a bit of moola for the family and the 4x4 project. I practically give parts away to my good freinds up here. I been charging $100 for solid front driveshafts when pick-a-part charges $27!! Buddy up in PG says he would charge $150 up his way. I like to "wallmart" my prices to move the inventory. My wife likes to see things getting gone plus that way I can bring more trucks home

the 80 and older hood hinges are bolted on the fender
81 and newer are in the cowl with just the spring going to fender
has been done changing front clip
but you need to welld parts of cowl in from the 81
easier ta get the right hood

hope this helps ya

The front of the hood changed in 81 or so whenever they changed the front fender marker lights from vertical to horizontal. The later hoods are virtually flat across the front, while the earlier hoods have a body line between the headlights and grill.

According to LMC 73-80 are the fenders that are rounded and have a vertical signal light and 81-87 have a straight body line with a horizontal signal light

So whats a fair price to charge for a 73-80 hood or 81 on? I told this one guy $75 for a 80 hood. I see the differences in design. Thanks for the help.
