I THINK

it has something to do with the gears not engaging all the way in the t-case. and the ends being sheared off... My buddy had this problem and found that it was fairly common..

Look into it as a start.

the front output shaft is on it's way out, if not already broken at the stub. or the shift fork is wearing out.

100 bucks or so from the dealer for a new shaft, or from trailtough.com

Think I have er fixed for now, body lift was causing shifter to hit floor in low,I had notched it before but I guess it was barely engaging for a couple years,
removed shift boot and opened floor up now it fully engages, prolly rounded some teeth so still interested in a t-case
