Did this with my 87 Blazer, you need to register it as a "sedan delivery" to get the truck plate and then raise the gvw, you just have to find a friendly/willing insurance agent...

My cj7 has truck plates. Required removing the rear seats, getting a vi and getting it weighed.

I just renewed my 4runner insurance. Registered it at an address in kelowna. Drove around for a week and switched the address back to lower mainland today. After they gave me my papers they told me I had 30 days to go through air care. I checked the papers over which say nothing about requiring air care so I don't think I'm going to waste my 30$. Ill do the same thing next year to get around air care. Seems like a good loop hole to me

Is the AirCare program ending?

The current testing contract with Envirotest Canada to provide light-duty vehicle emissions testing in this region runs until December 31, 2014. The Province has announced that light-duty vehicles will no longer require emissions testing after this date.

Quoted from the aircare site....

One can only hope they actually end it this time...

I reregistered to 5001GVW on Tuesday and there was no mention on a annual or semi annual CVIP being required. DO NOT mention it is to bye AIRCARE, she noted I had a lift and big tires and several Things add to the vehicle on the file.
