It's easier to do with the axle out of the vehicle and on stands...

...especially cause the d44s carriers like to fit in there so damn snug that there a bitch to get out from under the truck,

I can do it for you, pay me in beer but would like the axle housing out of the truck so I can do it on a bench at my shop in Abby. I've made my own setup bearings for the pinion and carrier when I did my 44.

Setup bearings are bearings that will slide on and off the pinion / carrier, so you can easily adjust your shim set. After you get your shims right, you take it back apart, press on hte new bearings with the shim set you figured out, and put it back together.

You either need a case spreader or a 2x4 and a big hammer.

big fucking hammer has never failed me yet! I'll do it for ya still in the truck, if you don't want to pull the axle?
