View Full Version : i think i f***ed up

the bushing in my stick shift was shot
so i pulled the shifter out to take a look
yeah is messed
but when i pulled it out the truck was in reverse
now i can put it back in (in what seams like neutral)
but will not shift to anyother gear
when i relise the clutch she does back

anyone help me please?

You missed the shift forks with the shifter. Take the shifter out again, use a long screwdriver and shift the reverse fork into neutral (align the one that isn't aligned with the rest) and put the shifter back in.

i know what the problem is
i am hoping that some on here would have a answer on how the get it back into neutral so the tranny will shift

but from your answer you dont have that answer

i got-r-dun
came back to it today with a leval head
saw how the linkage worked
and put a flaf head screwdrive to ware i thought it should be
and poped it back into neutral
put in the shifter and drove it around
now all i need is the bushing

Happened to me once on my '78 Chevy Shortbox, yanked it out of low when it still had a load on it and shifter popped up out of the forks. Doesn't take much to pull the shifter and pop the fork back into neutral.

yeah i was just a little pissed off at the time
i needed too cool down and think right

Working on the roomates f250 shifter.
when we put it back in the truck would't move.
or shift. we figured we had it in both first and rev at the
same time. it whould'nt role or move under power.
Is that posible?
89 F250

Took it out againe and did the screw driver flick
and all was well.
