yes i will be putting a 1.5" box brace between the shackles once i have it bolted up so i can get the right width for the shackles

Started to get the factory bushings out of the 63 chev leafs. ugh what a pain

I agree, nice stick welding too, or at least looks like it.

theborges
06-03-2009, 07:45 AM
Not stick, MIG, some of the spots were hard to weld properly with the mig but hate stick welding unless i have no choice.

while driving around today for work in my Nice AC'ed truck i got an idea for the truck.

So once I got home i capped the ends of the cross member and put in 2 threaded 1/2" nipples into the box so that it is now a 1.3Gal air tank. the main framework of the new box ill also make a air storage which once im done ill have about 10 gal of air storage for the onboard air system without having to have a normal tank taking up space

I'ld have to say you have yourself a 1.3 gal bomb on your hands there. H.S.S. is not for pressure. Your end caps are not for pressure, and sorry, but your welds aren't either.

It'll make an excelent mount for suspension components, but there's no way in hell I'ld pressurize that.

took 2 5x6 1/2 thick plates and had my cousin cnc mill my leaf plates for the ubolts,

got new leaf pearches that will be welded to the axle once i set the pinion angle and correct spacing etc

Last thing i got (Thanks B) set of 4 tires and rims to use as mock up rollers. bald 38" tall tires.

nice work man, just wondering why your doing the shackles on the front of the truck instead of putting them onto the frame in the back? (shackle reversal), just curious thats all, nice work keep er up, cutting that fuckin IFS shit out is the longest part about doing a sas unless you got a plasma cutter or torch, little tip, when you do get all the ifs shit out, plate the drivers side frame rail and pull the steering box out and plate around that area too to that way after a few wheeling trips you wont be pulling the box to repair the broken frame rail behind the steering box,

you figure out what your gonna be using for shock mounts in the front yet?

theborges
06-06-2009, 04:57 PM
well that cross member is for the rear of the truck not the front. Im doing a link front suspension.

for front shock mounts ill be making hoops that will tie into the exo once its all made

Got a little done to it today. placed the rear bumper on to check fit and lines up great. got the rear rollers bolted on and rolled the truck onto flatter ground. lifted up the front as much as i can with the jack stands i have. Need to get bigger ones now. could use 4 jack stands anyways. dang its going to look mean once its sitting on all 4s. the last pic shows roughly how ill be cutting my fender for clearances. will have to move my remote oil filter mount and my batery to though. oh well. just another thing to do

i did read the first post, and i said i gaurentee that your not high enough, and that if you cant find bigger jack stands then you should use some big wood blocks that are wider than the base of the jackstands:party0010: :D

are you doing leafs in the front or coils, sorry i forgeted, if your doing leafs then just chop your exhaust off at the end of the manifold cause its gonna have to get re-routed for the driveshaft, IF your doing leafs your gonna have to modify your tranny crossmember for the front driveshaft so it dosent hit it

dirka dave
06-30-2009, 08:38 PM
I believe it was suggested one of the times I was at your place to put blocks under the jack stands......

I have to use 2 layers of 4x4 blocks for the 82'.

It is also safer because there is less of the stand comming out of the base which make it more stable..
