Can anyone tell me what to excpect to pay for a automatic to fit a 96 Ford F-250 2wdr?
Should i buy a used one or try and get this one rebuilt?
Whats the best way to go?

Could always get a used trans....as far as cost goes, I'm not sure.....however getting the existing unit rebuilt by a competent shop is always a better option, they will replace anything that's screwed and in most cases, the parts they are putting in are better than OE due to design updates/changes. Just my $0.02

One of the guys at work just went thru hell with his Ford, bought a used "good" trans from a wrecker, installed it, no good...got another one, installed it, no good. He eventually just rebuilt it himself and works good now, cept he's nervous about it as he never done one before :confused0006: I think the used ones were pretty pricey too, like 1500 bux but not sure about that.

Tranny Price?

I'm guessing it depends on how good looking the tranny is and if it's pre-op or post-op...oh yeah

I just spend a lot of money having a the tranny in my truck built properly. Rollerized, extra clutch packs, steel planetary gears, upgraded torque converter. Basically its built like a upgraded diesel tranny. Cost a bit, but I won't have to worry about it again for a long time!

2 or 3 grand?
The one in my 02 Superduty was only $1800.
I put the $700 one in and it seems to be working OK.
