View Full Version : The flexiest STOCK 4x4

Just curious as to what you think the stretchiest stocker is? I'm totally impressed with the flex of my stock Pathfinder...not that it's going to stay that way. I figure it's got to be one of the best articulating stock platforms out there. Anyone disagree?
Oh ya, stockers suck, boke guys shouldn't have any fun and if you don't have a moded 4x4 you're a looser. There - saved ya the trouble of shooting off one of those cheezy replies.

your an idiot, is that cheesy enough?

id say a jeep rubicon and or the dodge poewr wagon, they stopped making them in 2005 tough.

Flex on a beach all by yourself on a rock is not the same kind of flex that you would be using on a trail with load on the vehicle and roots and turns. All that matters is how is preforms on the trail and obviously drive skill to

And another for good measure.

My 'Finder goes anywhere that my buddy's Yj goes and it has a 4" lift and 33" Interco's. I think that's pretty good.

is good for sure but alsotake into consideration the following:

vechile weight
tires
terrain
driver ability
the who gives a fuk factor.

dont get me wrong im all for the jap trucks myself being a 4 runner driver

oh and who can drive in deep water? I think I win that one lol

I wouldn't consider your trail pic as flex at all the rear tire has to be 8''s off the ground!! More like park my truck on a steep incline stuff the tire roll the body right over and consider it flex. Flex and body roll there is a difference [cheers]

My opinion for right out of the box capability would be the jeep rubicon's, as much as I dont like em. Why spend the extra money for em if your gonna mod the shit out of them anyway.

And as far as flex goes, mine rules, can get one tire 67 inches off the ground and still have the other three firmly planted on the ground, but no it aint nowhere near stock. But flex alone dont make the vehicle wheel any better, its about 30% what ya drive and 40% how well ya know how to drive it, and 30% how good your spotter is.

Ya you heard right, the spotter is just as important as the rig ya drive!!!!
Feel better there Darin?

Before i built my rig, I used to wheel with a buddy in a stock 98 TJ.

I could easily outwheel him. (and yes he can drive).

If it wasnt for the IFS in a pathy, they would outflex ALL.

The rear end in these things kick ass. (flex).

FYI,
toyota land rover, and a couple other companies copied nissans rear suspension design that was released late 86.

Just to clarify, I know that flex is not the be-all and end-all of 4x4 capability. All of the things mentioned in previous posts (driver ability, lockers, drunken factor, and so on...) are as important, if not MORE IMPORTANT than flex.
Come on though, there's a little poser in all of us! It's fun to get your rig as twisted as possible (even on a rock on the beach). My rig has been just as twisted on some trails that were as much as my stocker could handle as it is on the rock in the first pic, but when I'm driving it's tough to take pics! Plus I just thought the pic on the rock was the closest thing I had to and RTI pic. I'm a broke guy with a stocker who likes to have some fun. Maybe I'll also cut my fenders and mount 35's or 36's - don't know if my IFS could take it but at least it's just the cost of tires and a sawsall blade or two!!!
Oh and as far as being able to keep up to a mildly moded YJ, my 'finder has longer wheelbase and an auto tranny to it's advantage, these things make a big difference - and we don't just cruise FSR's! I went to Hale this weekend and the trails I run at Nickelmine are alot tougher than the "hard route" down there, so I think that's saying something for a stocker.[cheers]

the hard route at hale is becoming the easy route if ya wanna call it that, both ways are easy that a stock jeep could make it through there, mine did when it was stock with 235/75 15`s on it,

he likes to say that but there is not much stock about it.
none of the drivetrain or suspension is stock for a trooper
troopers didnt come with chevy leaf springs or chevy axles
