anyone know what the tork spec is for the pinion nut on the dana 35 1988 xj:confused0006:

Pinion nut size & thread pitch .875-20
Pinion nut torque (Crush sleeve) 170-500 ft. lbs
Pinion bearing preload 15-35 in. lbs.
Ring gear bolt size & thread pitch .375-24
Ring gear bolt torque 70-90 ft. lbs
Carrier bearing cap bolt size & thread pitch .437-14
Carrier bearing cap bolt torque 47-67 ft. lbs
Diff cover bolt size & thread pitch .312-18
Diff cover bolt torque 28-33 ft. lbs
Carrier case ratios 3.31- / 3.54+

I think there is more to it than just setting the torque, you have to preload the bearing and there are procedures for doing it right, with the right amount of clearance. I'm on dial up but search for an installation guide for it on the net. Something like this http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=479888 see the last post about setting and the crush sleeve.
