wats the best route to go here.. my buddy just bought a 90 YJ 4.2L on 38.5s, drove it for about a week.. blew 3rd gear. we took'er out to stave sunday and pooched the tcase, now he's wanting to swap out both. Wat are some reccommendations on trannys/tcases to go with?
ive been lookin at a twinstick setup for him but i dont think hes really keen on having to customize anything.
any help/information would be a big help. [cheers]

He has the AX-15/NP231 combo. If he doesnt wanna modify anything then thats the best way to go. Just Re and re. Twin stick can end up bein expensive and some modification IS required. Best twin stick out there is the Atlas t-case but can run up to 3 grand to get one.

4.2 is junk dont spend any money on it.. or upgrades for behind it. best/money saving advise is to throw a 350 in it.

If it is a 91 then its the 4.0 litre fuel injection. The 90 was the last year of crapberator

The ax15 is probably the best/strongest tranny you can use without custom shit in there. What's the odds that the tranny/tcase was shit to begin with and that's why the guy sold it? In witch case, get some good ones and go. If you blow the shit outa the new set, then you'll know it ain't gonna work, so drop in a 350/nv4500/atlas 2.

we talkin bout mikey here.. not the ddurtyburger.. and mike got his jeep off craigslist, apparently it had been repo'd and sitting for 3 years, 3rd gear went 2 weeks after he bought it..
