Hello,
Any thoughts about this?
Building a dana 44 hybrid 60?
Would this be good enough to wheel bigger tires its meant for?
I do know the dana 44 warrentys up to 37" tires with some replace shafts but with a full out hybrid maybe be a cheap mans way of running 44"s?
Cheers
Chris

bad plan
there is no part of a d44 that you will want
it is all too small
the d60 will be tested with 44" tires

even if you do put d60 outter on a d44 you still have the small inner shafts smaller ring and pinion no matter what you do for chromoly shit you will still break em, get a 60 and get 35 or 40 spline inners and 30 spline outters and you may be fine but with 44`s your still gonna be iffy, i got 39`s that im gonna be runnin on my d44 but the amount i spent on my d44 shit i shoulda bought 60`s

i dont see why everyone always asks about building a d44 for anything more than 33-35's. if you ask about a d44 and big tires you are always gonna get the same answer.

! just get a 60 !

i dont see what the big deal is. any wrecker has balljoint 60's for $1000. then 35 spline inner/35 outer shafts are like $400. then another $200 for 35 spline hubs. so for about $1500 give or take you can have an axle that has no problems with 300 hp and 44's.(unless your tire has serious traction like at the bottom of a ditch where 1/2 the circumfrance of your tire is in contact with the ground) ive got more hp and bigger tires and ive never had a problem with mine.

they are not that pricey just figure out how much money you are going to waste on axle shafts and gears cause you keep busting your and you will have your d60 paid for in about four or five trips on the trails

its sad that the ways of the good deal on a 60 cuz some guy doesnt know what he has are going the way of the dodo, but there still out there. bought my whole 78 f350 parts truck for 300 bucks :happy0045:

yeah but the days where jeep guys still think d44s and 8.8 are "good" parts are still with us
so there is $$ to be made

i know where there is a front diff outta a 04 f350 complete stock gears needs a rebuild. ie. ball joints, tie rod end spumpkin and gears are all good

still good deals to be found . the cost of a 60 really isnt that much if you are hard on your equipment. if you want a 44 anf your tires are not to big and you maintain and respect it it will last. if you treat the gas pedal like a light switch then get the 60 from the get go.

The savings in grief will be worth it never mind the cost of axle shaft and u joints

just do like i did and buy a few parts trucks peel out the good shit sell eveything you do not need and keep the d60's. you'll end up with d60's for free or very very cheap.
You should have just waited and bought my truck then you wouldn't have these problems you'd already have d60's.

I cant see why...they run a light axle and then fill the tires with ballast water
