Like all motors , how much money you got and how fast do you want to go.
300 has limits , head gasket is the weak point . Mild cam , efi exhaust and
a 4 barrel , holley 390 they say works best. Doesnt take much for the v8s
to start passing the 6 , but it is a strong long lasting motor that well take
lots of abuse.Have lot of parts if intrested.

I have a set of efi manifolds .

since when was the head gasket the weak point? ford six is or was a good site for info . a cam around 260 works well . mine was great .

Ran one boosted couldnt keep the head gasket in it , 7/16 head studs
dont have enough holding power.

which block ? there are plenty around with turbos and no issues in fact they are known for staying together.

Only different block that I seen was a SVO block ,dont think it seen production . Talk to a guy on Ford six that drag with a six and first
thing he said head gasket was going to be my problem . Forgot his
name but most people on the site said he had most engine experince.
Lots of people with low boost 300s working good ,but i went up to 12lbs
with a t-66 it would push coolant out over flow . 1/2" head studs have
been use with some success , but I pull the plug on my project .

I was thinking small block or bigblock but i guess it was a 300 so it was a big block [27] [27]

I have a 86 bronco with the 300 6 and I love it. Put a 4 barrel intake ane carb on it. That should work for you.

i built a 300 in gr 12. their pretty pricey to build up big but there is some cheap things you can do. 86 is carbed i belies. as previously stated, efi manifolds are a good exaust swap. poor man headers if you will. we put my old offy dp n a 390 holley on my buddies stock 82 n it hauled fairly well.

mine had a 272 comp cam, 600 holley offy dp. shaved head n block down, 40 over, port polish, portmatched the efi manis n head, stiffer v-springs, balanced crank. think that was all. went a little to aggressive on the cam for offroad but it was a very stout little six banger. and it idled at 850 (bareley) an sounded awsome

This sounds awesome!! I LOVE I6's.... Split the exhaust manifold and some twice pipes and it'll sound cooler than anything else out there!!!

i thought of this, but was told not to as the 6 likes a bit of back pressure, i put the duals into a 3 inch collecter than down to 2.5 with a cherrybomb. no cats. sounded like a cammed up bb at idle, than an old italian race car above 4 grand [36] going to re-rebuild it one day and drop it into an old van(flat nose) with a gasser style straight axle. it isnt backpressure it is velocity .

the backpressure myth is a misunderstanding of what is happening and what makes it happen.

I have a two into one vortex muffler on mine and no tail pipes and my power went up. So don't worry about back pressure. Keep the 6 they are cheap to rebuild.

Tons of old hot rodders split the manifolds, or ran split headers with dual straight pipes, dual glass packs and even 1 straight, one glasspack (apparently sounds kickass!).

Put a small 4bbl carb on an offy intake, bit of a cam and some free flowin exhaust. More air in, more air out.... BIG smiles.
Let the ol' 300 breathe....

that was the fancy word i was lookin for. anywhoo it was a few guys on ford six who built several motors that reccomended a 2 into 1 for my build. and it seemed to work great, made great power through 5 grand.

i didnt like takin mine much over 5 (not stock)

stock, not much reason to go over 3500 maybe 4 g's. i dont have dyno numbers but there not built to make high revvin power, just low end tourque.

have a buddy who swears hes never had his over 2500. 600000+k on, owned since new and still runs like a top.

ya i love the six too. dumbest thing i ever did was swap in a 460. its just a parts truck now, but when it was runnin i loved being able to sit on the inner fender while i wrenched on it. cant do that with a big block.
