View Full Version : Cab swap questions

I'm thinking about pulling the regular cab off my truck and putting on an extended cab. I've sunk far too much time and money into this truck to sell it and I need a bigger cab for the kids.
Other than shortening the box and welding on a set of cab mounts to the frame, what other modifications need to be done.
If I decide to do this I want to have everything ready to go so down time is minimal.

First things first I'll need to find a decent doner cab complete with interior.....

any insight would be helpfull.

I did it recently very easy other then the rear cab mount

you'll need a 3" body lift to clear the lift in the frame but it only goes on the the rad mount and the front cab mounts you'd be better off to make a crossmember for the rear cab monts

Is there enough room to notch out the floor and reposition the rear mounts without affecting the rear seat position? :confused0006:
I'ld like to stay away from the body lift if at all possible. Campers and body lifts don't get along that well.

if you made your rear mount crossmemeber lower and just used a poly body mount cut down to 1" thick you could do it but there wont be room for the side gas tank unless you lower it as well

well............not sure what I want to do now..........guess I'm going to have to make a decision..............Alot of fabrication or sell the old girl and buy an ext cab..............I hate this decision.....

Why not upgrade the whole front clip too cause the cabs are the same 1980-1997.
