Well after sifting through the 500 photos my mother took while i was busy learning about fighting fires and controling the adrenaline rush :happy0045: . We did a drill first before lunch which i missed because I was a little busy filling SCBA bottles so others could go back into the building, but the final i got to watch and man did that ever puke out smoke and burned hot.

the drill first nothing too big just the only room in teh building on fire.

one issue we had that day was that the bluetooth head set for the engine was not working so the pump operator could not hear a thing unless the radio was in his ear

100250

fire was going for about 5 minutes before this happened

100251

smoke so thick the attack team could not see the flame one his facesheild was so coated that he could not see a thing.

100253

Before we could do the final burn we had to weaken on of the walls so that it would fall in just right and not cause to much trouble with us as by this time the other tender was down to 15 000l of water and well we only had 1500l of water in our truck and about a 30 min turn around time to go fill up and return with water.

Great story to go with the pics, looked like a successful practice. Is that a special saw, the Stihl? What is that thing between the bar and dogs, looks like a guard of sorts?

I am with the Passmore Volunteer department so we are just the weekend warrior version.

That is a special saw all right. Has a carbide chain that allows us to cut through almost anything. Short of steel beams and concrete. Went through the duct work on that place like a hot knife through butter. Because of the chain you have to run a guard, that guard helps set depth cut too if you just want to remove the shingles and plywood off a roof and not the rafters.

I'm in Hall 4 in Chilliwack FD for the last 4 years and was the POC Chief at Abbotsford Hall 2 for 11 years before that...
Love the live burns but don't get as much chance anymore too busy at work and all but that will change...
