in person ive only seen hydro rams used. on trucksgonewild guys use crossover steering somehow. i really dont think a normal steering box and regular 1 ton stuff would be strong enough at all to turn a 900 lb axle with 500lbs of tires and rims on it. your gonna have to go with hydro steering. do searches for home made hydro steering on google. and most people running rockwells are in the 700-1000 hp area to overcome the weight and everything.

2.5 tons werent big enough?unless u are planning on building a real monster truck i would downsize ,we bought a full hydro setup from PSC it was around 1400 us. it comes with everything to do the job ,pump, rotary double ended ram, brackets and hoses, not legal for the street, but in a big truck sometimes thats the best sollution,we are running 54 boggers on double beadlocks with 3 link in the front and 4 link in the rear, almost all the parts have been bought for that build
