View Full Version : SAS Tracker vitara..

has anyone done an SAS in tracker or a Vitara yet? Just starting over here and was wondering if someone has any photos or additional ideas for it. It is a toss up for Coils or Leafs up front.

Ya coils would be great but the heck do I have to know to install a link system for the front?

If leaf springs are installed I have to extend the front frame (from what I have seen.)

Just looking for ideas and opinions.

I found a couple build ups on the Zuwharrie last night. But everyone is doing something different.

There will be a write up for sure! And lots of beer will be consumed.

I have found a lot on zuwharrie but I was just hoping to see someones up close.

Thanks though!

Project has been started by the way.

Going with a coil setup. Then you don't have to extend the frame to fit the YJ leafs. Trying to keep that stock sleeper look.

I will post the build soon.

I would love to if I could get the dam pics off the camera...

Anyways where he is at:

Removed all the IFS.

Picked up a Samurai Front diff (cheap)

Made his own lower coil pockets and Bumpstops (we will call them donkey dinks)

So before he could weld the lower plates onto the diff you have know where the knuckle degree is suppose to be. If it is a samurai it is 4degrees which is great because when the Leaf spring perch is at 0degrees it is equal to get the knuckle degrees.

parts arrived yesterday (dom tube, johny joints and some other junk). That should be welded in by tomorrow evening.

Lower links will be 48" long, It has the high steer kit already. We just have to find the right steering system to fit in there.

Soon as I can get some photos off this POS camera I will post some up.

Good for you for going for the build, be good to see it when its done. Not a critique, but why sammi axles, pretty small and weak, I under stand you said you got a good deal, but you can still get a good set of toy axles which would be stronger for like $400, heres a set on craigslist for example http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/pts/974535608.html , and these are really nice, http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/pts/981965176.html , refinished, high steer, LC vented rotors, ifs calipers, all $500. cant go wrong, especially with going to all the fabing work, your going to want to upgrade one day anyway, if your linking it, its going to be alot of work to switch, as well they would give you a little width for some stability.

I drive a zuk and I ran the 31 LTBs for awhile and I just started to blow the birfs because of wheel hop. He only went with the zuk front end because of the price. (it cost maybe 200 with the high steer).

The plan for next season is the Toyota axles according to him. Once everything is in place with the zuk front end mounted it wont be hard to go yota. Just swaping the brackets over.

I don't think he is even at $500 with the build so far. And his plan is to be under $1000 for the complete setup.

I just have to get some more photos of what he has done so far. He isn't good with computers. All the link brackets are built and welded on so far. Just waiting for the DOM.

I really need to get the photos but were almost done!! Built all the mounts, and links! He decided to go with the 3 link up front. Only because that zuk diff is so freakin small. Brif rings are coming. This is only a 6 month run on these diffs. (If I was able to convince him to SAS this thing shouldn't be hard to do yota diff front and rear or even the D44).

Working on the steering now. Found a tracker steering box for the time being. Will go with the Astro Van and signaw setup around the time the larger axles go in. Thats all I have. Just need photos.

If your planning on going toy axles in future, go with a toy box now. It'll work with the temp axle as weell as the new axle.

I agree but he found a tracker box tha bolted up. It was next to free so it will work for now. But thanks for the heads ups.

Oh for sure!! Had a new one in but that was before the third link was installed. The third link was hitting the cross member. A new one is getting mocked up.

But a question for the fabricators:

Why couldn't we move that cross member right to the front of the rig? I mean right on the horns of the frame.

Sorry to kick a dead horse but i would like to know how this worked out ? I would also like to sas my 2000 tracker in this manner . How are the handling characteristics now .

What size wheel spacers did you use ?
What sprigs were used?
Any chance you have the link measurements ?

Would you change anything if you had to do it over again?

Thanks Gadsbeee
