i couldnt get my '89 xj to pass aircare if my life depended on it, nitrogen is too high thats the only thing that fails. the o2 censor is fine, but i have a tiny crack in my exhaust manifold about 4 inches from the censor. wondering if that might be throwing it off or if anyones got any ideas, no help goes unnoticed, beers will be distributed once shes back on the road[36] [36]

Are you talkin NOx ? if so that's due to higher than normal combustion chamber temperature, closely related to exhaust gas recirculation valves....check yer EGR for proper operation ! Simple test is to get your hands on a vacuum pump (hand operated) take the vac line off the valve, plug it then attach the lil pump to the valve. Pump it up to about 15 inches mercury (don't worry the gague on the pump will be marked for this) slowly, if at idle the engine doesn't change tone then it's screwed, normal signs of working EGR is it should start to run like crap as you put vacuum on to the valve. Possibly even stalling, if it does this then the valve is working correctly, no change, valve shot, if you do replace it, make sure to clean the passages on the mounting flange. Just an idea.

The problem with Jeeps is that most don't have an egr, and the timing is not adjustable. The thing that makes all the ones I've done so far, pass is a GOOD cat. They are around $600 installed, at the shop I work at.

pre 91`s have egr valves, and are also harder to pass aircare, its most likely the egr valve, my jeep failed aircare 8 times before i said fuck it and started permiting it, once i get my new engine though it will pass for sure, a buddy of mine unbolted his cat, and stuffed a bunch of steel wool inside the mounting flange then took it to aircare and it passed, you could try that, :dontknow:

i had my electric controls for the EGR fail, so I disconnected it all. ensure the plastic valve before the EGR works as well. I still passed without an EGR working, and I pass with the stroker more without an EGR as it stands right now..

not a jeep vehicle but my car failed aircare badly and was running the shits

I tracked it down to the egr valve not working properly

disconnected/bypassed the egr valve and it passed with flying colours

so why have this bullshit aircare anyway :dontknow:

one tip is if you go through aircare, make sure your exhaust system is hot. drive the truck for a while at higher rpms and when waiting in line keep the rpms up 2k -2.5k so it stays nice and hot till they test. the hotter the cat the better it works

more jeep problems my buddys 88 xj has eletric sunroof, theres a black wire appears to be a ground comin from the switch. a purple and a brown wire goin to the switch. the sunroof opens fine, but doesnt close unless you link the purple and the black together, but when you do that it wants to continuosly close the fucker the motor keeps goin until u disconnect the wires. we have no idea where to even begin...
