Hello,
I have a old 440 engine I would like to rebuild. I do not think I am brave enought to rebuild it myself. I was thinking boring it out more but does anyone know of a really respectable shops in kelowna that does all this?
Oh another thing the truck came with a pretty freshly rebuilt 360 I am thinking of maybe saving money and punching it out to a 383 and making it into a pretty wicked done up engine any help would be nice.
This is a bogger with hopes one day running 44" tires.
Thanks

That is what I thought, forgot the name thought it was something eles engine rebuilders and nothing on the net came up. Anyways wicked thanks, umm now 360 punched out to a 383 vs a 440?

You can't "punch" a 360 out to a 383....not even close. You need to sonic check cylinder walls after .040, which will give you maybe another 5ci? By the time you bore out 23ci worth of iron you won't have any cylinders left. Also, there's no replacement for displacement. Ever. Google up some info, you're going to need a lot more technical engine know how just to make sure you don't get screwed over...

you can make a 360 into a 383 but not by milling it is done with 318 cylinder heads, concave pistons and cnc`d con rods and it ain`t cheep would be cheeper to do the 440 as long as it is a newer late 50`s -60`s 440 not the old 30-50`s block of led

a 383 is a big block mopar, same block as the 400 I am told.

Biggest you can make a 360 is about 412CI, thats with a .040 overbore and a 4.00" crank.

440 will be a good engine to build, they make a ton of torque, but are getting rare.

The 383 is the old sixe for a big block, 400/440. They are getting rare, even rarer are the hd ones with the good cranks and good heads. I'm not a dodge guy in any way, that's my dad's gig, but I still have a steel cranked 440 in the back if your interested. It needs a freshining up, but it's all there and was running about 3 yeaqrs ago.

I don't think so. A 318 would have smaller combustion chambers, which would reduce ci if they had any effect. However, combustion chambers are not taken into account at all when measuring engine displacement. Dished pistons will never net you a reasonable amount of displacement, it's just not possible, even if you had the most custom pistons in the world made up they wouldn't give any appreciable increase in displacement and they would likely create turbulance and ruin swirl within the combustion chamber. I'm not sure where you're going with the con rods, you could "cnc" them all you want but they're never going to increase displacement. The crankshaft determines how much further up and down they go, you can mess around with con rods all you like but you'll never increase displacement (you could always bring them lower in the hole, but that would probably lower compression to a point where it might not even run). Also, the 440 wasn't introduced until 1966. So he's not going to find one older than that. Last thing, milling is different than boring. I'm kind of hoping you were joking with that whole thing, actually...

The only way you're going to get a significant increase in displacement from any motor is by stroking it (which requires a different crankshaft). It is impossible to do it any other way (I guess you could always take out the cylinders and sleeve them, but that's a great way to ruin a block).
