Well, I got my first truck this year, and ever since I've been willing to get out exploring, camping or just the ocazional wheekend drive.
I used to do it 10 years ago with my friends truck and I rememebr having a great time.
I have an '86 Mercedes G-wagen on 35's. With 2 exeptions I managed to take it out every wheekend since I got it but since I only know a few locations it's not as exciting anymore. I need to find some new places and some people to go wheel with. Hopefully I'll find both in this comunity.

Why? I'd lend him a hand! Not that I'm such a good mercedes mechanic but I'm good at drinkin' beer and handing him tools. Welcome!

Thanks!
Eagle is close to home, I go there often for a quick outing :)
The sheet metal on the passenger door and the rocker panel are not straight anymore...I managed to put it on it's side once.
Yeah, I hope I don't break on the trail...even though they say it's just a matter of time till it happeneds :) I like to push it, but I don't abuse it.
I used to wheel in my buddies done up bronco with a 427ci in it, so I didn't know what to expect from this one.
It doesn't have lots of power (150hp) so it's not too quick...decent though. It's not fast either (factory 4.88 gears)...with 35's on I can do 120km/h but the engine's close to 4000rpm, can't really cruise at that speed. They're military vehicles so quite heavy for it's size(with a full tank it's close to 5000lbs). It likes gas :)about 20l/100km ... no matter if your on the highway or 4x4ing...same all the time. go figure. I'm planning a diesel swap. It doesn't flex very much but from my experience so far, it doesn't really need to.
Ok, some good things ... factory low gears, they have good axels, fully locked from factory (hydraulic activated, dog engagement)...actually everything is either mechanical or hydraulicly activated. Minimal electronics (lights, fuel pump, and ignition...injection is mechanical). The levers to lock the diffs are in the truck so you don't need to get out. The transfer case is fully syncronized mechanical....so you go from 2Hi to 4Hi to 4Lo without stopping...high location for drivetrain breather hoses (drivetrain is fully sealed...no water in the clutch)... even the alternator has it's own snorkle.

So far I like it a lot, but then I never took it to a trail with difficult sections. I'll have to wait and see...
