IFS drop is the only way to lift the front other then coil spacers. You can go up 2" with spacers and with a 2" body lift you can fit 33"s. My wife had a 3" calmini and a 2" body kit with 33"s and had lots of clearence. the 05-08's you can get a 5" lift from calmini. Cheapest way is SAS

i think that the xterras are drivers side drop t-case arnt they? you may be able to do a sas with a scout or waggy d44 front axle if you do a sas on it,

AAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDD as a matter of fact, calamini just came out with a sas kit for the xterra`s and the axle of choice for it is a mid 80`s waggy d44,

front part of the kit comes with the crossmembers, pitman arm tie rod and adjuster sleeve, shock hoops, steel braided brake lines, track bar, radius arm assemblies, two weld on diff brackets and the skid plate to tie it all in,

There is no such thing as a cheap SAS.. try rough country or calmini

If it stays IFS what are its limits? I know shit all about nissans like his? Way better to do SAS? How much cost is involved? versus keeping IFS?

Xterras are a pretty good platform.
You can do a 2" body lift, and 3" suspension lift safely.
If you do more than 3" suspension lift you will need to drop the whole from end (diff and all)
this will alow you to run 33's
