The timing chain is shot on my 1982. I went to the wreckers and pulled the timing chain, guides, tensioner and gears from a 1989 22r. I know that the blocks are different and the chain will not fit my 1982... but will the gears and guides fit?

OMG >>> this is an INTERFERANCE engine ..

timing chain Problems , breaks , skips .. means the pistons will hit the valves .. = LARGER $$$

dont cheep out .. do it right .

most aftermarket kits are ok .. but make sure you get a good tensioner .

there is a 2 or 3 link difference in the chain between years, just forget the years

chain from that year will absolutly NOT fit . gears will .. but guides and tension wont .. so whats the point ?

for your year /82 . absolutly go with a duel row set .. applicatable up to /84 .

for the conversion , you will also need the shorter oil pump gear , and new guide bolts .. but hell , the guides are even steel , instead of plastic ...

some say , you will loose ~ 1-2% HP loss , because of the "extra" drag of the chain .. but I personally believe (and know) the benifets out weigh the losses .

my old 84 EFI w/duel chain

Don't you have to change the cover too ?

I thought that the dbl. roller cover was deeper than the single roller..
