just a couple pics from a recent outing to the Cariboo Mtns. Unfortunately it is likely the last time I will go there due to 'environmental issues', but there are plenty of other places around. The XJ is starting to get quite capable and I have big plans for over the winter.

Nice! What elevation is that at?

not as high as you might think - only 2060 m

there are some other places out west of Williams Lake that are much higher. not sure if I'll make it for a trip out there this year before the snow flies

How did you get in there? Switchbacks or straight up the hillside?
I'm interested - why can't do it again? Is the government making that area a park?

i went there the next weekend with the NCOAS and it was a great trip. but on the way down we got hassled by a couple of CO's. aparently this area has ben closed from motorised vehicles for ever as they put it, but there were no signs. so we all got writen warnigs. but any way here are some pics.

there's a pretty good road that goes up to the top of the mountain, then I just crawled the rocks a bit once up there. no switchbacks but a bit of loose rock in places.
Why is it closed? Hell if I know. You can never get a straight answer to that - it just seems that years ago someone decided this area should be preserved and thats the way it is. I don't know what makes this area special from all the other mountains in the area but somehow it is. There is talk of endangered caribou in the area but I'm pretty sure it's a myth:rolleyes: - nobody I have talked to has ever seen a caribou in that area.

for a 'closed' area the road up there sure is in good shape.

i know, the road to yanks peak is open and the road to round top is closed but at the fork you cant tell. and acording to the CO's the area has been closed for atleast 10 years. as a club we have been going there for 8 years and had never heard of round top being closed. but o well, it was a nice trip. just to bad it was the last up there.
