I am thinking about maybe buying a winch.

I wanted your ideas about where it should be on the front of my 87 Toyota.

Should it be on the area where the happy face lights are or below the lights?

My truck weighs 5 thousand pounds - What size of winch should I buy?

Look around for an older warn 8274 8000 pound winch or you can go to Costco they sell a complete winch kit for around $400

Yep in the area where those lights are for sure. Like Todd said look for a used 8274 or any other new Warn product forget the Costco winch it will let you down when you really need it most.

I have a T-max 10,000... Its a great winch and costs about $1100.

The happyfaces look good.

I had a costco winch and it worked great until the brushed melted.

the old warn 8274 is a great winch ... its allso a great big winch ... no really needed for the front of toyota .... warn has a cheaper line of winches called tabour's ... close to same winch without the warn name ... very good cost for winch go for a an 8 to 9000 lay down style nice small , light, fast just what u need taxi ... don't buy the costco shit as they only last a short time and u being the mountian man will use it for long time ...

winch is the best thing I added to my trucks

Iave been using a superwinch 4500 with power out/freewheel for about 8yrs now , Iave pulled alot of fullsizetrucks out with a block , dragged moose in 250yrds out in a swamp.saved my ass a few times on icy hills, also great for hanging moose & deer ,

Costco one would be okay ,if you just used it like I do , probley not for long hard pulls in deep mud.
buy some extra cable/hooks. 100yrds and cut them in half , the smaller winchs usually only have 25-50 yrds on them .

I made a reciever mount that fits front or rear .You will have to beef up the front crossmember , I'll get a pick of mine

I wouldnt get a costco winch unless you like to have winches fail. My vote would be a mile marker SI9500, they cost around $700 USD and are fully submergable.
