View Full Version : firewall date plate decoding

Hey does anyone know a how to decode an XJ data plate on the firewall.:dontknow: I know with old cars it can tell all the specs including gear ratio. This would be helpful cause than I don't need to pull the covers off all the axles at the wreckers. I tried Google but can only find ones for muscle cars. Thanks for the help.

the dealership should be able to tell you all that with the # if you call them or go in

I'm sure they could but when I look at 10 or 20 Cherokees and some of them are buried in the bush, it becomes more useful to know what letter codes stand for. Like for the 8.25 with 3.07/3.55/3.73/4.10 gears I've found lots of them around but just looking to save time so I can spend more time wheeling than wenching.:D

they probably can give you the coding or a copy of it. I got that coding from BMW when i was searching for a e21
