Always wanted to get out sledding in June, this year it finally happened. Decided to make it an overnighter as we knew the beers would be flowing all day! :D We went up Ladybird near Castlegar, a popular sledding destination for late season riders. Still had to drive about 20km off the pavement to find snow, but well worth it. A buddy and I met up with 6 other riders and had a great day, a good finish to the season.

Worked on the sled during the week putting the lightweight hood back on and added some lights. It was a good thing too, as we came back down to the trucks at about 10:30 that night.

Had our first "mishap" 3km off the pavement, not even close to the snow. We both took blame for this one! :fighting0071:

Turns out my bumper being bent down stopped his ball mount from sliding in all the way. When I put the pin in, I thought it went through the holes, turns out it was in front of the mount! And the lucky part is I drove the 15km or so all the way from his house to here without it falling out! :dontknow: Would have been worse doing 70km/h up the windy pavement.

See, pin's in there! :D
84537

No more incidents on the road, but more to come after we hopped on the sleds. [15]
84538

Typical spring riding, little dirt, little mud, little snow and repeat for the first couple hundred yards.
84539

84540

KC learned not to follow so close in the mud. Barry on the yellow 670 covered him in mud trying to get up this little rise! We were laughing hard, he mud packed inside his helmet! :p
84541

84542

Next source of humour is brought to us by Corey.
84543

She decided to go through the water hole instead, but does a little flop in the water! Almost had a bath! [15]

84544

84545

Here she is, out of the water and on her way.
84546

First snow was only a few hundred yards through the trees. Usually we're riding dirt for a 1/4 mile at a time.
84547

First beer stop, well after unloading the sleds that is. Why did we park in the water? Because we could! :D

84548

This is the slides. Self explanatory.
84549

Not a good place to be in times of high avalanche risk.

84550

After a few minor stucks and a rollover we eventually made it to the cabin. Saw a marten dart out from underneath the cabin but didn't have the camera out.
84551

More carnage. KC decides to test his brand new bumper on this little tree. Tree - 1, 900 IQ - 0
84552

The bowl. If you've ever seen any of the Thunderstruck vids then you've seen these climbs in there.
84553

84554

Climbed up to the bottom of the bowl to watch the action closer up. Lots of rocks sitting just below the surface, a few of the guys found some.
84555

Looking back down Norns ck drainage, the way we came up.
84556

Wayne climbing into the bowl from below on his supercharged RX-1 230+ hp is amazing to watch!
84557

Tagged a rock, then noticed coolant on the snow. Nothing serious, did a repair on a cooler hose and he was good to go the rest of the day.
84558

Did some touring around through the trees, then dropped down to "the basement" for more hill climbing. I was last dropping down and after 7 sleds took off the fresh snow I was left with a toboggan ride down! And this is where I totalled my Powder Special 11 years ago! Fortunately it wasn't a repeat!

Looking back at the drop into the basement, about half way down is where my old Cat decided to take a solo trip down and found a huge tree to help it stop. [16] Good thing for insurance, it was only 5 months old!
84565

Looking north to Airy Creek valley.
84566

Back to the cabin for some grub and a few drinks. Good times! [cheers]
84567

Corey's smile says it all for us, had a great day!
84568

It was getting dark (and blurry for some!) on the way down, and not everyone had a headlight. At least that's his excuse for finding this creek! [15]
84569

Then not 10 minutes later, he launched the RX-1 uphill into these trees! Luckily no damage that we could see and he rode it out. Gotta remind him to put a light on for spring riding!
84570

84571

Next morning deciding whether we should go for another ride or not. For some reason we were a bit hungover. :dontknow:

There was 5" of fresh on top of the hardpack, so it was like riding on a layer of grease!

I seem to remember trees would always grab any snowmobile as they cruize by;)
