well, theres a cherokee and a pthfinder for sale in my ranger here.....but i know dick all about either. well shouldnt say that, i know the cherokee have crappy manifolds? and soemthing to do with the cooling bottle or whatever. pathfinder is a 91 4dr and the cherokee is a 90 2dr std with a small exhaust leak. cherokee would be a 4.0L and the pathy a 3.0L? i know toyotas have a gutless piece of shit 3.0 so i wonder how bad the nissan one is? also which one will be worse on gas.......i am already kinda swingin towards the cherokee cause of the solid front and i can run a 31 easily til i can find another toyota:D . so, any help is MUCH appreciated. oh and i havent looked at either vehicle yet, later tonight i will.[cheers]

I would say go for the XJ for sure

the nissan 3.0 is a bullet proof engine, the toyota is a boat anchor. stock pathfinders came with 31" tires.

the xj has a solid axle, but if your not going to wheel it much.. the IFS in the nissan would ride better.

Nissan motor will last longer, but the XJ has more power, but worse milage.

I'd take the pathy for sure, solid trucks.

If it's not a BC truck then check it for rust on the frame above the rear tires, seems to be the most common problem. But like Pathy said, the 3.0 is a pretty solid engine, haven't heard of many people with problems and usually its shit maintenance that causes the ones i have heard about.

When i bought my pathy 14 years ago, i test drove an XJ as well. i'm glad i went the way i did.

14 years of abuse and i'm still on the original engine.. and ask around, i'm not nice to it.

My father in law bought a Pathfinder in 90 with the 3.0 in it.400,000kms later the only engine work he has done to it is a water pump and exhaust manifolds[36] That is alot of driving ,and it still runs well! A cherokee hits 400k,it's ready for the bone yard

ah guess i should ask.....any tricks for the pathfinders? suspension or whatever......cause they are a 5 link rear are they not? ifs blows nuts, but i guess for s street/weekend warrior it will be fine for now. do they make a body lift or anything for the pathfinders cause i know the calmini 4" kit was like a thousand bucks. just want to run some 33's

to run 33's on a pathfinder you need a 3" suspension lift, and 3" body lift. you can get a body lift for under 100 bucks. the suspension lift is money, BUT,
You can, get some JGC coils for 2" lift in the rear, crank torsion bars 2" (any more you have camber problems) and a little fender trimming to fit 33's.
The pathfinder rule for tires is 3+3=33

You can't miss the lego wheels, they look like they belong in a lego set.

the rear is comparable to a 9" for strenght.

Its an H233 diff. H= made by hitachi. 233= 233mm ring gear.
31 spline shafts.

ah i see i see, are they a stock rim or special order? dont really wanna put much money into this thing cause i would like to start building a first gen yota with fullwidths and leafs, or yota axles with 4 link rear.

haha yeah i see what you mean, went to pick it up but it takes side terminal batteries and we brought a top post haha, pickin er up tonight, got some 31 10.5's on it, and lots of rust haha, whatever, for 600 i can beat the hell out of it...........oh, pathy, do you know about the problems with lights?? guy said its in the steering column....only get highbeams(really weak though) and the passenger side crapped out. they got it hard wired into a toggle switch. i would like to fix that though haha, its pretty ghetto
