View Full Version : Is it worth it... Now With lift pics

I'm looking at a 1988 Cherokee with a 10" rubicon lift. (supposodly) I gave it a quick lookover and the blocks in the rear are literally 10" lift blocks! The leaf packs are flat... I have not gone for a test drive yet, not sure if its worth my while. its on nearly bald 33's, and the front is just a tad lower than the rear. Rancho shocks on all 4 corners, looks to have a new exaust and all the front steering linkages look to be in okay shape. If I concidered it, for a daily driver the blocks would be okay to drive on? What about mild offroading. Should I ditch the blocks, or get smaller ones and new leafs put in. How do I know if its lifted properly without going offroading with it. I was going to do a typical drive down the block, drop it in 4x4 and do a circle to check u-joints... but how do I tell if it'll fall apart if i flex it.

you can check the ujoints in the front end without even moving the jeep, just crawl underneith and wiggle them, they souldnt have any or much play in them, im curious to see these lift blocks haha, do you have any pictures of it?

I was going to get pictures but was too dark for a camera phone. I've never seen blocks this big before! If it runs and drives well I'll most likely pick it up. As long as the steering isnt fucked than it should be simple to figure out the rest. Getting scarce finding cheap 4x4's this time of year.

edit: should I be worried about drive shaft angles? The front shaft looks like its at its limits in length.

Just cause it has rubicon stickers doesn't mean it a rubicon lift If the guys got 10" blocks in it then he is a knob and I wouldn't buy the thing cause I'm sure the rest of it is just a sweet as the lift blocks. Just my $.02

If its cheap buy it. You can always take out the blocks and do it right, you only really need 6" lift to run 33s anyways

I talked him down from $1500 to $800. Recent rebuild on the trans and engine. Everything is freshly greased, new u-joints, and exaust. Sure a 6" lift will clear 33's but a 10" lift sounds a little more "bad ass" and I can play in deeper mud-puddles :D

Yea but with 10" blocks you might end up playing in the bank :confused0006: If it was me id buy it if it was in good mech. shape and then take out the 10" blocks and try to lift it more properly, say bigger leafs and smaller blocks

10" lift is useless in an XJ. must look rediculous with 10" lift blocks and bald 33's. I bet it has the D35 still in the back too LOL. But for $800 you can lower it and fix a few mistakes!

10 inches on stock axles is fucking pointless - to fill those gigantic american style wheel well voids you would have to run tires that would blow those axles to peices the first sight of throttle.. Oh, show me the 10 inch kit on the RE site:

WOW. That's all I gotta say.. Wait, no. I have more. Sacked rear leaves....I mean, they look like they are about to break! Also, what kind of offroad vehicle has a fucking REAR swaybar? is that for safety? Because..well nothing else on this truck looks safe... One 'saving grace' is that the rear blocks are at very least ONE PEICE..not several things welded together.. There is no anti-wrap bar so I bet that axle would fall out if you stepped on the throttle at all, 'cause christ knows the fucking rear leafs arn't going to stop it from wrapping. The rear pinion angle is horrifying as well..zero degrees? I'd be shocked if there was a front driveshaft in this abortion of a jeep. It's a good thing he painted all the shit wrong red in the front end too otherwise I might not have noticed the tranny cooler lines zap strapped to the fucking swaybar.

The stock front links on a 'ten inch rubicon express lift kit' are a nice final touch.

Yeah, but the diameter of a superduty axle is like 3.5 inches, and i'm sure the diameter of the stock is quite a bit thicker too..

"I'd like some 40 inch 9/16th stock bent around a 2.5 inch radius please.."

I think the its illegal after 3" for a block isn't it? Hmmm let me check my Vehicle Inspection Manual :D :dontknow: Maybe i'm just thinking height wise ..... LOL

So because it has FRESH gaskets you're positive the engine and trans have been rebuilt??? All it takes is some simple clean, a pressure washer and a can of paint to rebuild  ... NO wonder everyone is rebuilding their big blocks its so cheap!!!! :D I'm kinda curious about the driving in a circle to test the U-Joints. :)
