Late loading these, but been a busy week trying to check out everyone else's great trip reports from the May long! Can't believe all the posts from one weekend, must be a record! [cheers]

Did 3 days of quadding, 3 different areas. Would have like to get out sledding one day, but the timing was off. Oh well, there's always next weekend or even June, can't wait to put up pics of us sledding in June! :D

Saturday my daughter wanted to ride her quad, so we went up to the Bombi summit where it was guaranteed to be a quiet place without a lot of traffic. First time out for her (she has logged a few miles in the driveway and yard, but that got boring fast!) and she did awesome. Cruised around the gravel pits for about 40 minutes then we all headed up the logging road. It was funny watching her follow my route even through the big puddles from the snow melt. Had to warn her to stay clear of the bigger one, would have been over the seat on her little machine! :happy0045:

Parking lot, expected a few trucks here, but no one but us.

It was only 2 weeks ago I saw guys sledding up here, snow's going quick.
82561

Danielle having fun
82562

82563

Gotta like having a snowball fight on May long weekend! :D
82564

Time for lunch and a break in the shade
82565

Scott found out the Brute Force 750 wasn't invincible after all. Good thing I had my Yammy to winch him out! ;)
82566

Checking out a new cutblock that wasn't buried in snow.
82567

No chance doing any of the loops today, once we hit a shady spot, it was 2' of rotten snow.
82568

Sunday it was family day. Took the wife and daughter to meet up with a couple of buddies at Fort Sheppard. Was a bit cooler, but still warm enough for t-shirts all day.

This is one of the nicest cabins I've seen in the backcountry. All log, complete with wood stove and heat exchanger for hot water.
These pics are from our ride up here April 20. This day there was only a pile of snow as big as a helmet. Melted fast! Should have gotten a couple pics to show the difference.
82572

82573

82574

82575

82576

Just down the road is this older cabin. Getting rough inside.
82577

One of the original mining roads in the area. Makes a nice break from the modern and dusty logging roads
82578

This is an old reservoir that Trail used for drinking water. Unfortunately they have plans to turn the area into a park and it doesn't include atv or dirtbike access. [16]
82579

82580

82581

82582

Went through a bit more snow on the way to Violen lake which is just a short ways up the valley from the reservoir. Too busy getting the quads through the snow to take pics.

On the loop back to the trucks, we stopped at this view point of Warfield.
82583

Red Mountain ski-hill
82584

82585

More signs of the snow going fast.

By Monday I was ready for a longer ride and went up the old C&W Railbed then up over Bulldog mountain and down to the old town site of Renata on the Lower Arrow lake.

82588

82590

82589

Syringa park, the campground was full as expected on a long weekend.
82591

Small tunnels
82592

82593

Arrow lake
82594

Safety shelter that the Trails society put up. Intended for the mountain bikers, but good for anyone using the railbed.
82595

82596

Bulldog tunnel. Almost a kilometre long. Can't see your hand in front of your face in the middle of this one! It's fun cruising through on the quad and turning the lights off. Can't keep them off for more then a second! :D
82597

Ice anyone?
82598

82599

Didn't think we'd run into snow this low (3700'), but it's a shady spot near the creek.

82605

Good thing "someone" carries a chainsaw. I'm going to have to start charging these guys for trail maintenance! :D
82606

The Mountain Chief mine located half way down to Renata from Bulldog lookout
82607

82608

Old Tramwheel.
82609

Dog ck is usually low enough to cross this early, but not this year.
82610

82611

82612

The old cemetary for Renata. When the Hugh Keenleyside dam was built in the '60s, they just poured a cement slab over it instead of moving the remains to higher ground.
82613

82614

Lots of beach to play on even though the water has started coming up in the lake.

Don't know him personally, but stopped by there couple years ago to chat. He does some awesome work. It's all over the road on the way to the beach and I think that's his work on the Renata sign on the beach (with my Grizz beside).

Didn't he do some time years ago for shooting someone? I heard a local shot another local over trespassing or something like that in Renata. Or is this just how rumours get started? :D
