Is the 4.2(1989) cover the same as the 4.0 cover? Thanks. [cheers]

The 4.0 and 4.2 timing chain covers are exactly the same up to I believe 93 or 94 then the 4.0 went to a one piece oil pan gasket and the timing chain cover changed slightly as a result, you can still use the later timing chain cover on the earlier engines you just have to either . . . 1, use the one piece oil pan gasket (a little more pricey than the 4 piece but it is a way better gasket) or 2, drill the four small locating holes into the later timing chain cover so you can use the four piece gasket set.

Mikey you rock, thanks. I have one from a 90 or 91 I can use. Mine is so worn out the slider and the tabs that hold it in are gone.
