the flat part of the knuckle needs to be tilted slightly rearward...if it is tilted to the front cou have way to much catser and the truck wont steer

put an angle finder on the flat portion of the knuckle.. it should be laying backwards 3-7 deg. aim for about 4-5deg negative castor

Caster Explained
To understand caster you need to picture an imaginary line that runs from through the upper ball joint and extends through the lower ball joint. From the side view the imaginary line will tilt forward or backward. The tilting of this
imaginary line is defined as caster.
Caster is measured in degrees by using a caster camber gauge. If the imaginary line described above tilts towards the back of the car, at the top, then you will have positive caster. If the imaginary line tilts forward then you would have negative caster.

Positive caster provides the directional stability in your racecar. Too much positive caster will make the steering effort difficult. Power steering will allow you to run more positive caster. Negative caster requires less steering effort but can cause the car to wander down the straightaway.

line the uper and lower balljoints up to 90deg

That would provide 0 deg castor.. like a scout. Thats why the scout axles are not desireable.

you can get an angle finder at just about any hardware store.. cheap..

the top ball joint should be pointing backwards. approx 3-5 deg from 90 deg.

the top ball joint should be pointing backwards. approx 3-5 deg from 90 deg.

top should be pointing forwards for negative caster. since his truck will not be driven on the street(writen off by icbc) negative caster (in moderation) is fine for off road only. my truck is running around 5 deg. negative caster and it has fairly good road manners concidering tires size. plus your doing 4 link so you can adjust it after if the steering is shitty from neg caster.

I like to use protractor on the flat surface of the lower ball joint. between 5 to9 deg. 5 deg. works very well on my lifted comanche.
