lol no sorry dude, its just got to last me till old green is ready to be painted and ready to drive, then im going to take all the A/C stuff, cruise control stuff, and any other cool things (D60's) off it and probably scrap the rest, its too big a truck to be a trail rig, and I think those D60's would look great under my Stepside, later to be powered by a 12V Cummins or 7.3 Powerstoke, if fuel prices to continue skyrocketing. Why not spend the money on the diesels instead of a high HP big block

It runs perfect and everything works great, theres even no slop in the steering system and just had new ball joints put in.

Thats a wierd A/C control!

I've had a a few '79s with air ( 1 crew cab, 2 supers & 2 Broncos) & all had the controls in the regular heater control in the center of the dash?

I think you have a HP D44, I don't see any King Pins?

That is a cool truck!

I use ta have an old '77 2wd. It was the best truck I ever had for haulin heavy dutry stuff. Blew all the othe Dodges and Chevys away. She had a 460 in her. Passed every thing but the gas stations lol

Nope thats a ball-joint D60. I compared it to my HpD44 on my F150, and it is much larger.

05-02-2008, 05:57 AM
Yeah the A/C control is wierd, i think it is a dealer installed option or something, because i have never seen A/C done like that on an old truck.

05-02-2008, 08:22 AM
I am really curious about the options on that truck. You should take the numbers off the door tag or dash and run them throught this VIN decoder.(hopefully the link works)

I would be interested to see what it was optioned with from the factory. I have a 1978 F-250 custom 4x4 that got ordered with the heavy duty cooling package, D60 front and cruise control, but no A/C.

Nope thats a ball-joint D60. I compared it to my HpD44 on my F150, and it is much larger.

whats the hub diameter

05-02-2008, 03:14 PM
so the 60 was swaped in then,

05-02-2008, 05:38 PM
sure looks to be a 44

05-02-2008, 08:15 PM
Its a D44, it was either a D44 ball joint or D60 King Pin back in them days
(I feel old!).

05-02-2008, 09:12 PM
Well the pumpin on my HP D44 in my 78' matched up nose to nose on the 79' and its a bit smaller, thats what i mean by it being "bigger", but it does look like a D44 eh? Ithought the Kingpin D60 wasnt untill the 80's. Im going to run a Vin Check on it, ill get back to ya.

05-02-2008, 09:22 PM
Ok so its got a D60 rear posi with 3.54 gears (has to be wrong, top speed is about 110km/h) and it says, i have a 3800 P.S. with adj. col.

05-02-2008, 09:23 PM
the 3800 P.S. is the front end, none of the options gave me a definite D60 or 44 type, or even what gearing it is.

05-02-2008, 09:40 PM
Well i crawled under there and checked the Diff tags, its a 44-9. SO i guess its a 44 aww well. At least i have a truck to drive for now.
