better off going for a 9" then doing the disc brake swap, will probably cost you less in the long run ,with a better diff.

The Explorer disc brakes will bolt on to the full size housing all you will need to do is redrill the rotors for the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern. I have done this swap many times.

It is all part of the disc brake setup. The rotor is a mini brake drum inside and the caliper mounting bracket also mounts a mini brake shoe set, hook up E brake cables to it and good to go.

Oh yeah as lilfoot said rear discs started in 95 on the Exploders

can you use this on the 9'' as well?

You can use this on a "big bearing" 9 in, the bolt pattern on the 8.8 backing plate is the same as big bearing 9 but you have to make a shim for the bearing retainer to take up the extra thickness of the disc brake caliper mount plate, for the axle bearing retainer to hold the bearing in the housing properly.

You can buy the complete Explorer disc brake kit from Ford Motorsports when you get it it tells you it will fit both and they give you the shim I mentioned in their kit.
