View Full Version : Can't get my Savage running
04-19-2008, 09:41 AM
So I bought a savage from a buddy, it has not been run in a year. Replaced all the batteries, glow plug, charged the glow plug charger overnight, still won't work. I used it lots when my buddy had it but I never started it before. There is a guage on the glow plug charger, it won't register. Stays down in the red. Do I need a new charger?
could be the glow starter or the plug, take out the glow plug and put in in the starter and see if it gets hot, if not get a new plug , if it wont heat up you need a new starter

I'll go try that. I bought 4 new glow plugs yesterday. Pretty common sense......I cleaned the end of the starter, it was filthy. If it does not work on a new glow plug I'll go buy a new battery for it.

Well isn't heating up a new one. I am going to try to get a new battery for it.
EDIT: well I took the battery to that interstate place on 97 and banks and they said it was good. So it must be the charger. So I bought a new one and put the old battery in it. No go. so I'll charge the new one in the new charger until tommorow and try again. If that's not it I'll just take it in.

Get a new glow heater and charger. One of the electrical joints in it is prolly oxidized. Go from there, You can also get a 3v latern battery and put the power to the glowplug your self.

Well I got a new charger. It heated up that plug instantly. Truck still won't run. Fer fuck sake, for the $40 for service I might as well bring it in to high octane. Just getting frustrated. Not like I can use it today anyway..

Your clutch shoes are prolly gone. Take it in to service or look in the manual.
um if it sat for a year you might want to check your fuel lines maybe even open up ur carb clean it all out that fuel gums up and again if its been sitting for a year your prolly going to have to do a bit of a mini break in again just a quick tip

Actually once I got the glow plug charger figured out it fired right up. I have a new spur gear and cluch, I'll replace it today.
