350 using flywheel off 305 ,and starter for 350, same tooth count.. same size ... I have some info saying they dont work together and some info saying they are identical ..

Before stripping the hole out .. It didnt work .. tore the teeth right off the nose gear onthe old starter.. new starter.. same wheel.. no shims.. still no work.. 1/16 shim still no workie... 3/32still no worky then stripped otu hole so now have to heli coil ..

any input on why else the thing wont engage properly?

uh you shouldnt need shims first off... um helicoil the hole first to fix the stripped hole... then buy a proper starter for a 350 are you wearing the teeth off the starter gear???

Are the starter bolts in line, or staggered?
