Im looking at an 89 4runner 22re, 5spd. It has a rough idle that i am told is most likely cuz of the egr. Im told to just block it off.
The other thing is it has what sounds like valve train noise when its on the fast idle and idles quiet when warm (just rough). If you just crack the throttle it gets the rattle again.
Is it possible that just the valve lash is out?
The guy has spent over $1000 at a kelowna shop having them fix the idle problem and its still the same, they havn't even said anything about the engine noise.

Update: Pulled the plugs today and one is fouled with a light brown crust but its not wet at all. Also another plug wire was broken.
Compression readings from front to back are 145/ 98/ 150/ 128psi. The 150psi was the fouled plug and the 128psi was the broken wire.
