Hey everyone!!!

A little update.... I've only got a couple of months left in my wildlife and environmental studies at BCIT. It's been tough, a lot of work, and requires a lot of my time (as you have probably realized since I have been absent from camping trips now). First year was a bit of a drag but second year has been a blast! We've been on a few awesome trips and have a few ones coming up that are without a doubt going to awesome as well.

So, since I'm taking a short break from studying for my midterms, I thought I would post a couple of pictures from my recent trip to Yellowstone National Park where we spent a week in the park learing about wildlife and winter recreation (ie snowmobiling and snowshoeing).

74722
Rocky Moutain Elk... they were everywhere!!!

74723
And so were the bison!

74724
First wolves we saw during a blizzard... the Druid Peak Pack (picture taken looking through a spotting scope)

74725
Me on a snowmobile

74726
Lots of bison walking by during our snowmobile trip

74727
Some gyesers

74728
Grey wolf eating what's left of a kill. Afterwards they (another wolf was nearby) began to howl for approx 1 minute... very cool!!!

74740
Grey wolf came around a corner walked right by our bus... only about 10 feet away! Can you see him bearing his teeth a bit... wolves don't like people and try to avoid them as well as cars and roads at all cost... except this one...

74729
Same wolf...

74730
Another grey wolf taking a nap after eating an elk carcass

74731
Same wolf leaving after his nap

74732
What's left of a 2 day old elk carcass... skin and some hair...

74733
A coyote coming in for some grub

74734
Hot spring... not for swimming...

74735

74736

74737
A satellite pack (they travel in and out of the park)... two black females and one grey male...

74738
Coyote

74739
Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep

Hope everyone is doing well and hope to see you all sometime this summer!

Take Care!!!

You are correct babe. You do pay attention!!! ;)

The wolves are actually doing so well they can't really keep track of them all anymore. There are just over 150 of them in Yellowstone alone and around 320 aurounding the park in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, in which they come and go in the park when they want. So the 'satellite' wolves or packs are ones they don't know much about (they know the name, number, age, sex, and what pack they belong to for almost every wolf in the park). Apparently it is the best place in the world to see wolves in the wild. We saw them everyday... a record for BCIT. I think I saw about 40 wolves in total...

I highly reccomend visiting the park... 2 day drive but well worth it!

I'll try to post a couple more pictures this weekend... gotta go study some more!!!

Alright, screw studying... here are some more pictures...

74779
A bull elk

74781
A bull elk in town. A small dog was barking and clawing at the window and the elk didn't even blink.

74780
The Lamar Valley

74782
Bison on our snowmobile trip

74783
Just to give you an idea of how close the bison were to us... some even tried to charge us!

74784
The Pearl Gyeser... pretty colours...

74785
More gysers in the Norris Gyeser Basin

74787
And we ran into the same 3 bison groups again on our way home.

74788
I think they were getting fed up with us...

74789
A typical traffic jam in Yellowstone... also known as a bison jam

74790
The ellk carcass that the napping wolf was feeding on... you can see how quickly the ravens and coyotes moved in after the wolf left.

74791
The Lamar River

74792
The Mammoth Hot Springs we got to swim in... scolding hot water tumbling down the rocks to the right which merged with ice cold river water to the left...

74793
And while enjoying relaxing in the hot springs we had the wonderful company of 5 elk across the river... gorgeous!

74794
The small 'sattelite' pack again... you can see them howling...

74795
Bighorn sheep digging for grass and shrubs under the snow

74796
Can you spot the Bighorn sheep napping?

74797
Pronghorn antelope

74798
The only way you can get around Yellowstone National Park in winter, by snowmobile or in one of these... a snowcoach (only the road going thru Lamar Valley is paved and open for cars during winter).

74786
An ol' 60's model snowcoach

Uhhh, they're all around BC, you just don't see them because they hear you coming before you get a chance to see them. They don't like humans. They're even making a comeback into the Lower Mainland around the Pitt Lake area... since there's elk now around in that area...

But glad you like all the pictures!
